Project #5 Optical Illusion
Description
Pattern-making is an ancient and culturally diverse practice. For this assignment, we had to look back into our own cultural history as a starting point to create an optical illusion that may appreciate, critique, or simply sit with the culture. In India, a lot of textiles use a pattern called Ambi(meaning mango seed), also called Paisley. This shape is not just used in clothing but also in Rangoli art, Henna art or architechture. Hence it becomes a common identifier of something traditional.
Design Process
My favourite clothing is a Saree, its a piece of cloth made of either cotton, silk, jeorgette or many other possible fabrics. What I have designed is a Saree portion that comes on the shoulder and has gold border called Zari. These silk sarees have been my inspiration. I sketched out what
